Happy Birthday, Erin.

This is volume 2 of my series that I'm compiling. It's called 'Home' and it's about my life at home (duh!). There are so many magnificent things that happen in life and I'm trying to capture more of them through my lens. I feel like life goes by at a lightning-like speed that gives me distress about leaving rocks unturned and flowers un-smelled and that's probably why I'm a photographer so I can capture those beautiful moments and that's also why I forget to do things like sleep and go to the grocery store and I constantly ignore run-on sentences because who needs punctuation? The catch-22 with all this is that I've often left my camera in a drawer because it's difficult to both capture a moment and live in that moment simultaneously. Still thinking about how to address that great life challenge.

Anyway, we celebrated some birthday times in the back yard last night and I snapped a few photos. I am a big fan of birthday parties because it's a great time to remind people of how much their life means to others around them; a time to remind them of the gigantic role that they play on this planet and tell them that they are loved so much. My LA friends do this amazing thing called a "Birthday Ceremony" where they encourage everyone at a birthday party to give words of love and affirmation to the birthday person. So, I'm trying to incorporate that into birthday parties. Last night, we had a mini ceremony around 1am after the noise turned into silence and got to talk about the really great reasons to celebrate being alive.

Happy Birthday, loves.
